Why does this exist?
Most scam advice arrives after the fact. We wanted something for the thirty seconds when a message has just landed and your thumb is hovering: a place to paste it, see what stands out, and get a sensible next step.
These messages are designed to feel convincing. Getting one, or acting on one, says nothing about how careful or capable you are.
What is it, exactly?
A free checker that runs in your browser, a small set of sourced alerts, six guides to common patterns, and a printable family guide. The checker, the recovery steps, and the guide will stay free.
What is it not?
Scammer Checker is an independent educational service. It is not a government reporting portal, an antivirus product, or an identity monitoring service, and it cannot guarantee that anything is safe. It has no partnership with, or endorsement from, any agency it links to.
How is it paid for?
By Sideroad, and by two paid products: a printable kit for families and a program kit for organizations. The checker, the alerts, the learning pages, and the family guide are free and stay free. We do not advertise the kits on checker results, on the recovery page, or on guides written for people dealing with a loss or a threat, because someone in the middle of a scare should not be sold to. If we ever add a clearly labeled newsletter sponsor, sponsors will have no influence on checker results or alerts. We will not sell reports or personal information, and we will not take referral fees from "fund recovery" services.
